Version 2: Formation: Students sit in a circle with the “Squirrel” (“It”) standing outside the circle holding a knotted handkerchief.
As the song begins, “It” walks behind the circle. “It” taps a student on the shoulder with the handkerchief, drops it behind the student, and begins to walk briskly around the circle in one direction. The seated student grabs the handkerchief and walks in the other direction. When the two meet, they greet each other three times and then continue walking briskly. “It” must first reach the empty space. The other student becomes the new “it.” (fountain)
