An Introduction to Kindergarten
The primary purpose of our Kindergarten Curriculum is to provide music educators with a comprehensive software designed to deliver a developmentally and cognitively appropriate music education for young children, grounded in Literacy Pedagogy. This curriculum aligns with National Music Content Standards and Core Curriculum objectives to foster creativity, reinforce aural skills, and enhance visual literacy and numeracy in children.
The content is rooted in research from the fields of music perception and cognition. It offers a structured, practical approach for teaching children to sing, move, play instruments, develop music literacy, enhance listening skills, and cultivate creativity. The lessons and activities are carefully aligned with both national music standards and supported by books written by leading scholars in music education, promoting music learning that is both engaging and aligned with twenty-first-century educational goals.
This curriculum also emphasizes the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, all essential for modern learning. These skills, identified by the National Research Council as key “21st-century skills” or “deeper learning,” are seamlessly integrated into the music teaching process.
While many teachers have learned techniques for facilitating music activities, there is a desire for a more holistic and organic approach to teaching music in these classrooms.
We guide educators on how to build a cohesive curriculum and direction on how to:
- Select music materials for the early childhood classroom
- Develop appropriate singing and movement skills that are cognitively and developmentally appropriate
- Develop the foundations of music literacy skills
- Develop creativity skills
- Develop improvisation skills
- Connect the work of the Early Child music classroom with that of the elementary music classroom
- Develop evaluation and assessment tools
